Clubs and Extracurriculars

Chamber Choir is an opportunity for 8^th grade singers to participate in a mixed ensemble, made up of Sopranos, Altos, Tenors and Basses.  Students meet before school once a week to work on a variety of music, ranging in style from classical to pop.  Chamber Choir performs at every 8^th grade choir concert and is a great way to collaborate with other passionate singers.

The Valley View GSA provides a welcoming space for LGBTQ+ students and allies to meet, learn, and support one another. Student leadership opportunities are available for presenting, leading small group discussions, and planning group activities. GSA meets during Flex time every other week and is open to all students in all grade levels. 

Competitive math. For grades 6-8. Competitions through MN Junior High Math League (MNJHML) and MATHCOUNTS. Practices start shortly after the school year begins. MNJHML competitions are October – January and focus mostly on Algebra 1 concepts. MATHCOUNTS is an extended season for select Math Team members, beginning immediately after MNJHML ends, with a much broader focus of math concepts reaching into the realms of Geometry, Probability, Counting, and Algebra 2.

It’s a great place for students who have a passion for math to get together and do math! We have lots of fun every week!

Current Production

The Theatre Program at Valley View Middle School offers onstage and backstage opportunities for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students throughout the year.

Fall Play
The fall play is open to 7th and 8th grade students. The production is rehearsed at Valley View and performs on the Edina Performing Arts Center stage (EPAC) at Edina High School.

Spring Musical
The spring musical is open to 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. The production is rehearsed at Valley View and performs on the Edina Performing Arts Center stage (EPAC) at Edina High School.

VVMS Student Thespian Board
The VVMS Student Thespian Board is open to all VVMS 6th, 7th and 8th grade students who are interested in theatre. This group meets every two weeks before school from 8:30 to 9:05 to build community, explore theatre techniques and scene work.

VVMS Student Thespian Board Leadership Team
This is a group of 8th grade students who lead the VVMS Student Thespian Board. All 7th grade students who are active in the VVMS theatre program are welcome to apply for this position in the spring.

VVMS Drama Awards & Recognition
This is an annual award event celebrating the theatre season. Individual and groups of thespians for both onstage and backstage positions are recognized for their contribution to the fall play and the spring musical.

The VVMS Variety Show features students who want to share their special talents with our school! Examples of past performances include singing, playing a musical instrument, dancing, stand-up comedy, juggling, and magic tricks. Student artwork will also be on display before and after the show. The Variety Show takes place in April of each school year and all VVMS students are welcome to audition in March. Information will be shared in advisory in early spring.

Jazz Ensembles

Jazzers-6 is open to 6th graders and introduces playing in a jazz band and beginning improvisation. Jazzers-6 meets weekly and performs 2 concerts. 

Jazz Lab Band Wednesdays 8AM

Jazz Lab Band is open to 7th graders. We perform at a local jazz festival and 2 evening concerts. Weekly rehearsals before school. 

Stage Band Thursdays 8AM

Stage Band is open to 8th graders. Students are exposed to fun, challenging, full-ensemble jazz pieces and improvisational techniques. Stage Band performs at a local jazz festival and 2 evening concerts. Weekly rehearsals before school.

Service Squad

Service Squad dedicates time to improving Valley View as well as the community. We do service projects both inside and outside of VVMS.  Some of the projects are decided by the teachers, and some are based on students' interests. A few of our favorite projects from the past include: the food drive, made dog toys for the Humane Society, and a field trip to the Annadale Art and Textile Center.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes exists to bring together students/athletes for relationship building, faith development, and fun.  We gather for donuts, to study God's Word, and to build relationships with other students/staff at VVMS through fellowship and games.  FCA Huddles gather every Friday that school is in session from 8-9AM.
